Rees Lifts Veil On Nazis

Thursday 25th January

On Thursday 25th January the BAFTAaward winning documentary producer Laurence Rees came to talk to us about his work, specifically his 2005 documentary “The Nazis: A warning from history”. We were invited to ask questions about his meetings with the former Nazis and were shocked to discover that many of them felt no remorse for what they had done.

Laurence gave great advice for those of us who were still clueless as to what we wanted to do for a living. “Make a list of your top 5 interests/ hobbies and then see if anyone is willing to pay you to do it”. He was also adament that you must enjoy and be curious about what you are doing as this will spur you on to do a good job. When discussing documentary making he gave us some great advice with. Including the idea that you should never write a script, leave the documentary free to develop on its own, set out to answer certain questions and never veer of the topic at hand. All sound advice from a BAFTAaward winner. Laurence is currently working on a project involving World War II, which will be on our screens Septmeber 2008.
