Coventry’s £113 million Ricoh Arena had its official opening on Friday 23rd February with Trevor Brooking and double Olympic gold medallist Dame Kelly Holmes in attendance. As part of the celebrations, the next day the Ricoh hosted Made in Coventry, festival of all that’s creative in the Coventry area. CU Department of Media and Communication was well
represented. Award-winning photography work by Jaskirt Dhaliwal and Johanna Harris was displayed and three radio and two video crews with staff support were filming and
recording around the event. The radio students with lecturer Tim Coleman set up a rolling radio programme, adding edited reports on events as the day progressed. A video crew shot material with two Women’s Football teams, who played an exhibition game on the main Coventry City pitch. Independently, Andrea Hannon who works in ET reception also had a display of her own artwork on view. Philip Draycott, Head of Department, adds, “The whole day was free with many arts bodies, media companies, local community groups and schools involved so the event provided valuable contacts, networking and a highly visible local profile for our Department.”
