Jaskirt Dhaliwal, third year Media Production student, here at Coventry University won a Photograhy award from the Photo Imaging Council, on a body of work on Female footballers. The award came with £700 in prize money. Her photographs were exhibited at the The Focus On Imaging festival at Bham’s NEC from 25th - 28th February. The winning work included pictures of female footballers, such as Steph Samuels and football stadiums from around the country. Jaskirt first became interested in the idea of examining womens football through photography when she worked for the BBC writing female football reports. Jaskirt, from Birmingham wanted to highlight the polar opposites that the female and male footballers live in. ‘Male footballers are considered celebrities…whereas some of the nation’s top female footballers could pass you in the street and the vast majority of people wouldn’t have a clue who they were.’ Jaskirt’s picture of Steph Samuels appeared in the British Journal of Photography. “The most exciting thing for me ever! My photograph
was in my favourite photography mag - surreal but brilliant! ” Some of Jaskirt’s photographs can be seen in the reception of the Ellen Terry Building. For more information on
