This exhibition is inspired by an exchange visit from Coventry School of Art and Design to Zhejiang University of Media and Communication in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China in March and April, 2007. Four staff and nine students went to stay with colleagues at the University campus. We joined classes, visited places of great interest and beauty, discovered a new cuisine and explored the way of life of the teachers and students. More importantly we made many new friends.此次展览会的灵感来自于考文垂大学艺术设计学院与浙江杭州传媒学院在中国，2007年三月和四月交流互动中产生的。当时我们几个来自于考文垂的四位教师和九名学生住在杭州传媒学院校园区。在那里，我们参与了课堂，并参观了当地许多非常有意思、美丽的地方，发现了新的、与我们在英国不同的烹调方式，同时也探究了在中国杭州，老师与学生的生活方式。更重要的是，通过这次访问，我们结识了很多新朋友。
The trip was truly the experience of a lifetime. We were delighted and astonished by what we saw. These pictures represent only a tiny part of modern China. We knew that a lifetime would not be long enough to see, know and understand this vast country and its culture; a civilization continuous over millennia, a population comprising a fifth of the world’s people.这次的中国旅行绝对是一生的难忘之旅。我们对于所看到的一切都感到非常欣喜，惊奇。正如你所看到的，这些照片仅仅表现了一小部分现代的中国。我们也深深的体会到，即使是用一生的时光，也不足够去看、去认知、了解这个如此辽阔的国家还有它的文化： 一个连续几千年的文明社会，并且拥有全世界五分之一人口的国家。I was privileged to lead this trip. On the morning we had to set out on our return journey, no one wanted to leave. We even thought of missing the plane so we’d have to stay another day. None of us will forget those two weeks for the rest of our lives. We were overwhelmed by the friendliness and hospitality of both the staff and students and by all the people we met.
