COVENTRY FEATURE FILM DIRECTOR RETURNS ‘HOME’ TO COVENTRY UNIVERSITY
Coventry and Coventry university has not spawned many feature film directors. Debbie Isitt is head of a small club. She still lives in Coventry and works here-her latest film working title “Nativity†is currently being shot in the city. Her previous film “Confetti’ starring Martin Freeman and Jessica Stevenson was a Box Office success in 2006. Her first “Nasty Neighbours†in 2000 starred Ricky Tomlinson.
There are very few films being made in Britain. Debbie has succeeded where many others have failed. She has a background in theatre, having graduated form the Coventry School of Theatre and set up her own theatre company ‘Smarting Beasties’ in the city. That company won three Perrier Pick of the Fringe awards at the Edinburgh Festival. She writes improvised comedy. Her plays have been performed at the Royal Court, the Donmar Warehouse, London’s West End and round the world. She was nominated for a BAFTA as a writer in 2005.
The School of Art & Design is delighted to provide Debbie with a berth to ‘come home’
John Mair Senior lecturer and Events Co-ordinator says ‘It is always good to salute successful graduates of the Univeristy especially if they continue to make their home here. Debbie is a treat-she has got where she is by sheer talent and hard work. Come and hear her talk about “Nativity” and get a sneak preview of some of it. It will be unmissable.’
